Add a Twitter Widget to a Blackboard Course
Adding a Twitter Widget to your Blackboard Learn 9.1 course could be a great tool or resource for students if you answer “Yes” to any of the questions below.Do you utilize Twitter?
Want to show the latest updates of a Twitter user?
Want to show a real time search of what’s being said on Twitter?
Want to show of your favorite tweets?
Want to show tweets from a list created?
Visit http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets and select Widgets for… My Website
You will get to choose which type of Widget you would like to create:
Profile Widget
Display your most recent Twitter updates on any webpage.Search Widget
Displays search results in real time! Ideal for live events, broadcastings, conferences, TV Shows, or even just keeping up with the news.Faves Widget
Show off your favorite tweets! Also in real time, this widget will pull in the tweets you’ve starred as favorites. It’s great for moderation.List Widget
Put your favorite tweeps into a list! Then show ‘em off in a widget. Also great for moderation.For this example I choose to use the Profile Widget to add my Twitter feed to my Blackboard course’s homepage.
Settings: Choose the Username who’s feeds will be showing in your Twitter widget. For example my twitter username is ProfessorJosh Be aware that private accounts won’t display
Preferences: Choose a variety of preferences available to show in the widgets including how many tweets, scroll bar, check for new results, show users avatars, time space how long ago it was posted, show hashtags (example #blackboard)
Appearance: Choose the widget colors, including the shell background, tweet background, links, shell text, and tweet text. Don’t forget you can click “Test Settings” at the bottom of the page to see what it will look like. You can enter the numeric color codes to perfectly match your website or blog.
Dimensions to change the size of your widget (You wont be able to preview the size in the widgets page.)
1 – Test settings to make sure everything looks right
2 – Finish & Grab Code at the bottom of the page, and add the code to your website.
Select the entire HTML Code within the box. Copy this code to add to your Blackboard course.
Visit the course and content area you want to add the Widget (example Start Here) Click: Build Content > Create Item
Click on the icon in the Visual Editor to Toggle to HTML Source Code Mode.
Paste the HTML Code that you just copied from the Twitter Widget website, name the content, and click submit
Now you should see the Twitter Widget displayed in your Blackboard Learn 9.1 Course.
